I pushed the floating valve down and it came back up quickly. I don’t believe it was stuck. Steam kept coming out during the entire time. I keep going back to the point if there was too much liquid in the pot, from 1 cup water, over 1lb frozen shrimp, one large onion plus the sauce. Thanks for your answer.

Hi Marlene,

Happy New Year & thank you for your question 🙂

A quick release will take 1 – 3 minutes depending on how much steam is in the Instant Pot. The floating valve was most likely stuck if it took 20 minutes for it to drop down after a quick release.

If the floating valve happens to be stuck again (Make sure no steam is venting out of the venting knob), you can give the lid a few light shakes. The floating valve should drop down on it’s own.

Take care & stay safe!
Jacky

Made shrimp and broccoli in my instapot. I thought there was not enough liquid in recipe, soy sauce, oyster sauce, etc. so I added 1 cup of water. Was afraid of burning food. Additionally, I added an onion, 2 bell Peppers and doubled the amount of shrimp. Cooking time was 0 minutes. After cooking for 0 min I quickly released the pressure per the instructions. The pot took at least 20 minutes to fully release. Shrimp, which were frozen at start, were a bit tough. Does the time for quick release depend on how much water, liquid, is in the pot?
