We’ve been using your toasted sandwich method, a lot. It’s so flexible. 😁
And, we gave away our George Foreman sandwich toaster since, because it just produced a rock hard outer layer and far less tasty to boot. Temperamental timer issues maybe. Your method, with us human timers is better. So happy to release another kitchen gadget space hogger!
We loved our delicious cheese and chives toasted sarnie for supper tonight. Thanks, and hope you and your loved ones are keeping safe x5 stars

Frying the bread in butter makes all the difference. Loved it so much, Mark wants it again tonight. Same meal a second night running.. Unheard of!!!
Simple, yet so much tastier than dry cheese toasties. Thanks, Amy & Jacky. Keep safe x5 stars

Hi Mavis,

thank you for your question 🙂

The sliced onions and mushrooms are cooked for the full 45 minutes. You can set aside half of the mushrooms and add in at the end for more texture.
The onions will be mostly disintegrated into the gravy and add to the flavor.

Happy New Year to you and your family
Jacky

Question: were the slced onions and mushrooms to have been taken out of the pot before the 45 miutes cooking time?

Just wondering…

Going to be a tough one to pick the 1st!

I’m glad this recipe isn’t in the pressure cooker – I was wondering how you get the bread nice and toasty in the pressure cooker!

I’ve been making grilled cheese’s for YEARS and I never thought of making it that way – Toasting the INSIDE as well as the out.

I just want to go out of my way to thank for you posting these recipes, you could have bundled them up in a cookbook, but this way (offering, testing and eating..) you can give little cooking tips and respond to comments from InstaChefs! This site interested me far more than any others, so keep up the good work and thanks on behalf of all those searching for recipes that didn’t want to shell out $$ for a cookbook. (FYI I bought a cookbook with mine, flipped through it at lunch and only a handful of the dozens of recipes interested me VS the majority of the recipes on your site appealing to my family’s tastes.

Thanks again!
