I have made several of Amy + Jacky recipes and they have all been great. I improvised a little but I know from experience that if I had followed the recipe, as written, it would have been just as good. I say this because I get miffed at good reviews that hardly follow the recipe. How do you know if the recipe, as is, is good if the recipe wasn’t followed? Well, here I am doing that same thing; however, I didn’t change much and, as stated, all of their recipes are good as written. All I did differently was to make the tips in
a cup of the liquid left over from the the pressure cooker ribs recipe (fat drained), a mixture of black bean garlic sauce and mango chutney (what I had) in place of the chu hou sauce, omitted the soy sauce as the black bean garlic sauce is pretty salty, sake in place of the shaoxing wine, Mochiko for corn starch, and mashed up the carrot into the sauce when it was done. Oh, and I mistakenly omitted the sesame oil and it was still great! I also wanted to comment to say that with base recipes that are great, as is, don’t hesitate to improvise if you don’t have the exact ingredients. Chances are the recipe will still be lick the plate clean good. BTW – the ribs were fantastic, too!!5 stars

It reminded me of a childhood favorite dish from a Cantonese restaurant in my home town. I’m going to start asking the butcher for rib tips so I can keep making this! It will not be exactly the same, but you can substitute it with some five-spice powder, hoisin sauce, and oyster sauce.
