Notes:
1. I cooked mine in the instant pot for 60 mins, natural release 30 mins. Perfectly soft.
2. If you are adding liquid at the end to suit your preferred consistency , just remember that as it cools down, it will thicken quite significantly.5 stars

I’ve been eating leftovers all week for breakfast topped on a warm corn tortilla and soft fried egg. They get tastier with time!5 stars

Hi Jenn,

thank you for your kind words and question 🙂

Both ways will work fine as the keep warm function will not kick in well after pressure is released.

Take care & have fun cooking
Jacky

The recommendation to close lid with the valve open, shut after closing, is spot on. Our first IP recipe (from a different site) was disheartening because the pork chops were not tender. Now we are cooking correctly. These refried beans were the best we ever had, even though I forgot to remove the bay leaf (that I chose to add) before mashing.
We are learning a lot, your efforts are appreciated, we are new fans!5 stars

The first attempt the flavor was great but I didn’t love the texture. Since we love refried beans with all of our favorite Mexican foods I wanted to try again. The huge difference is that I invested in an immersion blender. Smooth creamy perfect beans. Thank goodness I tried it again, I printed the recipe and added to my binder of Amy and Jacky recipes!5 stars

I used previously cooked beans (made using the instant pot) with the bean cooking broth instead of chicken broth as called for. I find that just cooking the beans in the instant pot with water and aromatics yields a very flavorful broth, and it seemed only natural to just put the bean broth in with the beans for this dish.
I also didn’t have any onion on hand so used dried onion granules, which worked perfectly.5 stars
